About PS 437Q

PS 437Q
School Model
PS 437Q is built on a balanced approach to learning.
Students receive explicit instruction in reading, writing, and math, paired with project-based learning where they explore ideas, solve problems, and apply skills through hands-on, collaborative work.
In the early grades, students build strong foundations through guided practice and predictable routines while also engaging in purposeful exploration.
As students grow, projects become more complex and interdisciplinary, connecting literacy, math, science, and social studies through real problems, real work and experiences beyond the classroom, including field trips that support and extend learning.
Across the school, classrooms share common structures for thinking, collaboration, and revision - all inside a consistent instructional philosophy that gives teachers clarity and students a reliable, meaningful learning experience.
Mission & Vision
Mission
PS 437Q engages students in a balanced approach to learning:
Explicit instruction that builds strong foundational skills, paired with project-based exploration that helps children think deeply, collaborate, and apply their learning to real work.

Vision
We envision students who are confident thinkers and problem-solvers - readers, writers, and collaborators who use their learning to tackle real challenges.
We are building classrooms that bring learning to life through active thinking, explicit skill-building, and meaningful project work.
Our Approach
Everything we do is grounded in a balanced approach: explicit skill-building paired with hands-on, project-based learning.
Students learn by doing, thinking, talking, and revising.
Projects Make Learning Meaningful
Students work on real problems that give academic skills purpose.
Reading, writing, and math become tools students use to build, test, and communicate their thinking.
Revision is
Expected
Students try something, get feedback, and make it better.
They learn to persist, reflect, and strengthen their thinking.
Talk Deepens
Understanding
Students explain ideas, ask questions, listen to classmates, and work through confusion together.
Conversation isn’t extra; it’s how ideas become clear.
Collaboration is
Essential
Students work together daily, building on one another’s ideas and learning that different perspectives make solutions stronger.
This approach creates a consistent instructional philosophy across PS 437Q.
